April 5, 2013 - My enlarged Morpho, seen in the photo drying, measures six feet (1.8m) along its top edge and 32 inches (81cm) at the center-point. Surely it qualifies as a full-grown shawl now!
This is the description I sent with the shawl’s ‘fashion photos’ for the silent auction display:
” This lightweight cotton lace shawl will be perfect over a sleeveless dress this summer, but a fine hand-crocheted wrap is just as lovely when worn as an added layer during cool weather.
It’s a large triangle measuring six feet along its top edge and 32 inches at its point, constructed of row upon row of dainty lace clusters, and finished with a scalloped edge. “
BTW - lost the ruffle during blocking even though I didn’t pin
March 29, 2013 - I love Morpho’s slightly ruffled border! I think it’s far better looking than the “nice, simple scalloped edging” advertised in the pattern description. lol.
With about eighteen repeats of Morpho’s easy two-row pattern - remember I’m using 8/2 cotton thread - it measures 23 inches (58cm) by about 53 inches (1.35cm).
Never having made a shawl before, I thought this sounded plenty large until I actually tried it on. I want my Morpho to be larger. I promised to contribute a shawl to the charity auction and this is definitely still, in my eyes anyway, a shawlette.
March 8, 2013 - Last spring I promised to crochet a shawl for this year’s mission fundraiser. Time to get crochetin’ if I’m going to finish before the deadline of April 8th!
Using coral 8/2 cotton, about the same weight as #10 crochet cotton. I got a whole cone of it at Sal’s for $1.00!!! A good excuse to try crocheting lace I think.
I chose this pattern because it’s supposed to be a simple one, hopefully easy enough for a lace beginner like me. So far so good - it’s already 13” measured from center top to bottom point.
