Notes

Saw the pattern (and immediately queued) 1/19; ordered yarn the next day; cast on as soon as I could finish Dad’s birthday socks and free up the needles. This is the most expensive pattern I’ve ever bought, but it’s worth it because I am SO excited to make this.

Bluebell as Color A, held in LH; Abyss Heather as Color B, held in RH.

Since Palette’s recommended needle size range runs smaller than the Kauni’s recommended needle size range, I decided to use smaller needles (besides, I couldn’t find my 2’s, and my only 1.5’s are wood, which I don’t like as much and didn’t want to use for a several-month project).

Two rows in, I decided I didn’t like the way the cast-on looked, so I ripped it out and did the cast-on from the Love Actually… cowl instead. It’s much more fiddly, but personally I really like the way tubular cast-ons look so to me it was worth it. (Probably wouldn’t be for most people, because man it was a pain, while this pattern’s cast-on as written is not much harder than a normal long-tail.)

I worked 28 rows before starting the main chart, so if I work the number of repeats specified in the pattern there will be 536 rows total in the scarf. (So approximately every 27 rows is 5%—or more simply, each end is 5% and each repeat of the main chart is 15%.)

Weighs 20g 5” in, so I should have enough yarn.

Finished first repeat of Chart 2 Feb 9. I used 2a and 2b, switching pages back and forth, for this repeat, but I think I will switch to the all-one-page chart now that I know what’s going on with the pattern.

Finished second repeat of Chart 2 Feb 22. I’m done with the two Follow Your Arrow 2 shawls that I had also been working on, so this may progress slightly faster now. Project, incl. needles, weighs 82.8g at this point.

Joined 2nd ball of Bluebell on row 44 of third repeat. I still have 5g left of the 1st ball of Abyss Heather, so presumably there is a bit of gauge imbalance between my Continental and English knitting.

Joined 2nd ball of Abyss Heather on row 69 of third repeat.

Finished third repeat of Chart 2 Feb 28. Halfway!!! 115g incl. needles. (I think it’s 109g without the needles, judging by how much the working skeins weigh.)

Finished fourth repeat of Chart 2 Mar 17. Weighs 144g incl. needles.

Took an Elizabeth Zimmermann-inspired break followed by what I thought would be a short instant gratification double knitting project that took a little longer than I expected…probably knit less than 5 rows on this between March 27 and April 22 all told.

After more distractions due to my new cardboard-box inkle loom, finished fifth repeat of Chart 2 Apr 29. Weighs 177g incl. needles.
