This is the first time I am knitting a sweater for someone other than myself. It took a lot of correspondence with the CF team to tweak Mom’s measurements so that the CF engine doesn’t choke on them. Now that we’ve done that, the patterns looks reasonably accurate for her body.

I’ve started with the right front piece with the hope that I will make quick progress in three or four days. I’m going to see Mom soon and want to hold up the piece to her for confirmation that it’s going to fit.

On paper I worked the shaping numbers provided in the pattern to see how the Acorn Trail stitch pattern would play out on the fronts and back. The front pattern will end in the neckline shaping, so the entire shoulder will be stockinette. Some of the back pattern will continue into the shoulder. I’ve seen other project photos where it worked out the same way, so I’m not going to fiddle with stitch patterns to get something that matches at the shoulders. Mom won’t care.

7/16/2015: Right front is done. 58 grams. Somehow we messed up the length measurement and the sweater was 3” too short. Easy fix! Right front has been frogged down to the waist as there was no shaping below there.

7/20/2015: Left front is done with the additional 3” before starting the bust increases.

7/26/2015: Right front is done again, this time with the additional 3” before starting the bust increases.

7/27/2015: Started back.

Added about an inch of short rows halfway up the back. Then worked 12 more rows even, which is halfway up the remainder of the back. I want to block it at this point and hold it up to Mom to see if the short rows are good as is or if they need to be moved or if she needs more.

8/7/2015: Checked the back on Mom tonight. It looks good so far, but I’m going to add a few more short rows to raise the neck just a little more.

9/20/2015: Trim is finished. I used TechKnitter’s Tulip buttonholes found here.

10/1/2015: Re-blocked fronts and back after seaming and adding trim to try to get to correct finished measurements. Looks better. Sleeves and buttons added. Done! I’ll give this to Mom tomorrow. Pictures to follow.

Have just a few yards left of the fifth skein.

Buttons are Dill Buttons style 2009.

10/2/2015: Handed off the sweater to Mom. She is beyond thrilled to have this sweater! In fact, with the first chilly, damp day of the Fall, she put the sweater on and wore it the entire evening. So glad to see her happy with this.
