2013-02-22: Found these as a guest post on Petals to Picot, and couldn’t resist having a go. The colours were picked from my stash as three similar DK yarns that would go well together, though rather luridly. Sadly I think there’s not quite enough contrast between the black and purple - though I rather like the vivid pink.
A fun project for an hour or so!
2013-02-25: Having made one owl square I got the urge to incorporate it into something. I improvised a matching granny square pattern (starting with 4 chain in a loop, and four groups of three triples) and made 4 pink and 4 purple squares. They were marginally larger than the owl square, so I added one row of doubles in black round the outside of the owl to make it up to size. I slip-stitched the 9 squares together using the pink yarn, then added a border of one row of doubles and two rows of triples (on the suggestion of my my mum) - adding some extra triples in the corners to make them sit a bit better.
I think the granny squares themselves could have done with some extra stitches in the corners to make them sit a bit more square, and then the edge would be less curved, but overall I’m pretty happy with the result.
Erm, apologies for using British crochet terminology in my notes here, the original owl pattern itself uses US terminology instead, so that could be confusing!
