LOVE this shawl. the pattern is beautiful, and although it took all my concentration to complete, and i had to put it aside several times (to gather strenghth again!) i’m thrilled to have what feels like an heirloom piece (chuck is afraid to touch it ;)
i used habu laceweight cashmere, which felt a bit like knitting with a weightless spiders web, it is so fine. i went through three types of needles to find the best fit for knitting. lantern moons straights were the first choice, but the points were not quite sharp enough. then i tried kollage square circulars, which have a brilliant sharp tip and helped tremendously with slippery stitches, but the square needle was too rough on k3tog and once sawed through the stitches! so ended up with addi lace circulars.
this pattern is true lace, patterning on every side. to keep my place i used a row counter, repositionable tape and two lifelines. the extra line saved me when once having to rip back i’d failed to pick up a stitch (so easy to do with lace this fine) and i had to go back to the second line. whew!
knitting this shawl taught me patience, grace, and truly being in the (knitting) moment. and i learned a lot about reading lace. i may have reached knitting nirvana. :)
