June 22 - I just saw this pattern, and immediately began the project.
The first part (part A) has some kind of broomstick crochet technique which I don’t know how to do and I prefer simple crochet. I improvised with the other pattern stitches found within the pattern.
Front and back are alike, except on the neckline part.
This is how I improvised part A…
Row 1: (leave a long tail at the beginning for assembly) ch 252, sc in 2nd ch from hook and on each ch across, turn. (251 sts)
Row 2: Ch 1, sc in each sc across, turn.
Row 3: Ch 1, sc in first sc, (sc in next sc, ch 1, skip next sc, sc in next sc) repeat across, end with sc in last sc, turn.
Row 4: ch 1, sc in first sc, (ch 4, skip 3 sts, sc in next st) repeat across, end with ch 1, dc in last sc, turn.
Row 5: Ch 1, sc in same st, ch 4, sc in first ch-4 loop, (ch 4, sc in next loop) repeat across, end with ch 1, dc on last st, turn. (62 ch-4 loops)
Row 6: Ch 1, sc in same st, (ch 3, sc in next ch-4 loop) 26 times, (ch 2, sc in next ch-4 loop) 10 times, (ch 3, sc in next ch-4 loop) up to end of row, turn.
Row 7: Ch 4, tr in each st across, turn. (241 sts)
note: a difference in stitch count of one or two sts more or less, wont matter a bit, just make adjustments to end with 241 sts for this row.
Row 8: count 50 sts from both ends and place marker,
row 8a:sc in first 50 sts, place marker, (ch 1, skip one st, sc in next st) rep across up to 2 sts before marker, turn
row 8b: sc in next ch-1 space, (ch 4, skip 3 sts, sc in next st) rep across except on the last 3 sts before marker, dc on the marked st, turn.
row 8c: ch 1, sc in first loop, (ch 4, sc in next loop) rep across except on the last loop, ch 1, dc on last loop, turn
row 8d: a row of loops with decreases.
row 8e: a row of trs with decreases…then finish row 8a with sc sts on the remaining sts from marker.
part A should finish with 179 sts…then follow the chart on page 2 of pattern pdf.
June 24 - After almost finishing main body of back, I realized I misread the pattern. The tr sts are supposed to be double tr sts. Anyways, it turned out fine…I’ll just have to do the same for the front part :p
June 25 - back is finished and looks pretty even on the dressform :) Can’t wait to resume work on this project!
Front part is easy…and some minor mistakes on the back part, I was able to do right for the front. Assembly was easy too, I just sewed it side to side using the same thread. Sleeve edging corrected the loose armhole…
A few yds was left from the 3 balls of thread that I used.
This project fits me fairly well, and on the 32” bust dressform it fits better. This could also be worn by a size 34” bust.
Took me one week…could be done in 3 days maybe, with more aches and pains :p But I can say, thread crochet doesn’t tire my hands. Its easy on the hands, though tiring for the eyes and neck when working for hours.
