The pattern said I could purl of knit on row numbers 2, 4 and 6 and I chose to purl.
I used a 80cm Addi Premium cicular 4mm needle to start with, but found the P5tog almost impossible. Luckily, I found that I actually had a 4mm Addi lace needle. Although 150cm, it was not too long for the 360st required of the snood and the more pointed tips made the knitting much easier.
3/10/12 I had to rip this out twice! I made a mistake on my original work which would have been very time-consuming to take back. Secondly, the tenaion of the snood meant a circumference of only 130cm using 360st. The photo of the snood indicates that it should be below waist and much longer. Next I tried much larger needles (5.5mm), but I didn’t like the loosness of the finished work, so frogged again.
4/10/12 My tension indicated that I need 510 stitches to get a circumference of 184cm with the 4mm needles, so I cast on again. Very difficult working on such a large number of stitches - particularly to make sure the rows are not twisted. Anyway - I’m properly underway now. I just hope that I have enough yarn for a decent width of the snood. At the moment I’ve done just over 2 pattern repeats (and the cast-on row) with the first ball, width 7cm. As I have 5 balls, my snood should be 35cm width and hopefully that’s wide enough.
19/10/10 Finished! I got 13 pattern repeats out of the 5 balls, which I think is just right. The snood is beautiful! It turned out a bit larger (bigger circumference) than I was anticipating due to stretch along the cast-on/cast-off edges, but it is still OK. If I make it again, I would probably reduce the stitched by 66.
