I’m starting another test knit for Carol. I’m starting with this lovely variegated from knitted wit to see how the pattern works in variegated yarns. I am also going to test the pattern in abstract fiber supersock snapdragon.
Journal
2016-01-17: Cast on 64 stitches; US 1.0 (2.25mm); German twisted cast on.
2016-01-18: Complete first cuff. Complete 1.5 repeats of pattern. I’m now moving on to the snapdragon to see how it works.
2016-01-19: Completed cuff & 1.5 repeats in snapdragon. Its pretty and subtle -- too subtle for this test knit, so I’m going to use the knitted wit for this sock.
2016-01-20: Complete third repeat.
2016-01-21: Complete first sock leg; 7 repeats + 3 rounds per pattern directions. Not knowing what to do next with magic loop, I’ve put the sock back onto 2 needles before starting the heel.
2016-01-24: Complete heel flap.
2016-02-26: Complete heel turn.
2016-02-27: Complete gusset, ending with round 4.
2016-02-28: Complete first sock. This turns out to be the right sock. Holding for pattern modifications that I will test on the second sock.
2016-03-17: Complete leg, second sock. I needed to do one more “repeat” to get the 2 legs to be the same height. Switch to US 1.0 needles and begin heel flap.
2016-03-20: Complete gusset, second sock.
2016-03-21: Complete second sock. weave in ends & block.
2016-03-25: Completed photos. Waiting for publication….
Summary
-
If you want to use a variegated yarn, use one that has high color contrast. I started this sock with a variegated yarn that didn’t have high contrast. You can see the results in my pictures.
-
I’m using magic loop for the leg of this one (Surprise!!!). For the heel, gusset, foot and toe, I’ll go back to 2 circulars.
-
Cuff- US 1.0 (2.25mm); leg- US 1.5(2.5mm); heel flap, gusset ….. US 1.0 (2.25 mm).
First Time
- This is the first time I’ve used magic loop on a pair of socks
