This hat was knit on a US 5 needle, one size up from my previous attempt. I also cast on using a US 6 to get more stretch in the brim. This hat will be a better fit, although I have to say, I like the stitch definition on a US 4 a bit better.
Summary
- Cast on using German Twisted Cast on.
- I am changing the setup row as follows: {p1, kfb, (p1, k1tb)9, kfb, k1tbl}5. Stitches in italics are the changes.
- Changing k3tog to a cdd.
- Rewrote chart to use the correct symbol for Ktbl, leaving the stitch above the YO a plain knit stitch.
- Changed the SSK to a K2tog tbl to get a twist on the decrease stitch.
- Changed the K2tog to my own stitch so that the stitch twists: sl1 pwise, sl1 pwise tbl, return to left needle, k2tog. I have no idea if this is a named stitch.
- Modified my CDD as follows: Slip 2 as if to knit, slip stitches back to the left needle (don’t change orientation); sl1 pwise tbl, sl1 pwise (at this point the 2 original slipped stitches are back on the right needle); knit the next stitch, pass slipped stitches over. This modification gives the center stitch the same twist as other stitches.
- See Virtuaksia One for notes on my original attempt at this hat.
- This hat uses 28 grams, about 2 more grams than my previous attempt.
