I love these so much! I made pi for the left hand, and e for the right hand. They are a gift for a friend at school who is a former math geek. I tried knitting with one color in each hand which worked pretty well until i had to catch the yarn of the longer floats which i couldn’t figure out how to do with one color in each hand… There’s probably a youtube video I’m missing out on. Yarn used is an estimate, I held the yarn doubled to get gauge and worked from four balls. I think i used just over 50g of the main color, but not that much of the number color.
As i was working on these I thought they were coming out just the right size. Big enough for man hands, but not huge… Then I tried to block them. They looked like oven mits after relaxing in the water. Unacceptable. So I squeezed my eyes shut, and threw them in the laundry. We have a front loading washer, so once the door locked there was no going back. After one time through they came out PERFECT. They may be just a smidge small for man hands now, but i think they’ll stretch to accommodate. (If not maybe I’ll get them for myself!)
The pattern gives no instructions for how to add the thumb or do any of the shaping, but the chart is solid.
Right now I’m glowing with the success of my first really stranded and first really felting project.
The first three pictures are post-felting. The last two are when the knitting was done but before they grew in the wash. Unfortunately I didn’t get pictures of them when they were big enough to be worn as hats.
