Gauge swatch on size 10 needles = 14.5 stitches in 4 inches. Going down a needle size; I’ve got some room to play because of the positive ease. Using Purrgirl’s mods for a seamless knit.
Sleeve ribbing: I picked up the specified number of stitches for my size, then realized that I would be working the ribbing in the round rather than flat thanks to the seamless mods, and that I needed two less stitches to make the ribbing repeat work in the round (and no seam allowance). Chose to work to 3 stitches from end of first round, p2tog, then k last stitch tog with first stitch of round, to get to the correct number of stitches.
Bottom ribbing: Picking up 2 stitches per 3 rows yielded too few stitches, and I worried that a very pulled-in bottom ribbing wouldn’t be as attractive as one with relatively the same width as the cardigan body. Ripped out and picked up 3 stitches per 4 rows instead. This was closer to 200 stitches than the 166 called for in my size, but it seems to be working out.
Collar: I worked as per the corrected instructions on the pattern page. My yoke neckline is 164 rows total -- 82 rows to the center back. 82 rows of the collar instructions is 3 total repeats of the 16-row increase/short row pattern then working it again to row 10 (the first 8 rows of the increase/short-row section then 2 rows even), which got me to 16 stitches. (Notice that I was not able to complete the corrected short row pattern as written, because I got halfway to my row total before reaching the end of that pattern. 16 stitches wide was plenty for me for the back of the collar, and since I didn’t have a straight section between the short rows, I didn’t have the “gapping” problem that many people noted at the back of the neck.)
Then I started the second half of the collar with 2 even rows then the decrease/short-row pattern rows 1-8, continuing with 3 full repeats of the decrease/short-row pattern and so on. I reversed the decrease pattern to knit the 8 even row (9-16) before the short rows.
9/21/10: Sewed on the collar (mattress stitch). Believe me, your collar is going to look ridiculously too small. As long as you have the same number of rows as your yoke neckline, it’s going to work out perfectly.
9/25/10: Buttonbands knit exactly according to instructions; ends woven in. Needs underarm seaming and buttons at least. Not sure I’m going to block.
10/4/10: Blocking!
10/7/10: Buttons sewed on! PERFECT FIT! Pictures coming!
