This is my version of Hermione’s bottomless tiny beaded bag from The Deathly Hallows. The idea behind it is that it would be a nice version for a little girl, who wanted a pretty bag , but for whom a really intricate and formal bag might be inappropriate. I have a more formal and intricate version in mind too, but it struck me that a fancy everyday bag would be much more practical. The bag is actually beaded but the yarn is really doing all the work here. In fact if I did it again, I wouldn’t bead it at all or I’d save the beads for the handle or edges of the bag. Or I’d use larger beads.
My favorite part is that the bag really is extremely expandable due to the mesh stitch. I can easily carry my essentials in it, (camera, ipod, phone keys, foldable hat, sundries) and probably pick up something along the way. I plan on lining this one (and would recommend it), but it’s not essential if you don’t plan to carry anything really tiny or small or are using it as a play bag. As a temp solution I used a scarf and it works fine. The mohair keeps things together. That’s why I marking it complete. I have no idea when I’ll get around to lining it since the scarf trick works so well :).
It’s also nice that it’s super quick to make. The sparkly bag has a degree of fanciness, but as I didn’t spend hours beading it, the abuse from everyday wear it might suffer is no big deal. I really made it as a
This was the third attempt (at least) to find something I could use this yarn for. This time I’m actually happy with the result. There’s no way I’d actually wear this yarn but it really does make a nice bag.
