Since it is bulky not Worsted:
Swatched at 3.25mm, got 5 sts/in
Went to 3.75mm, got 4.5 sts/in which is gauge
Soo… since that first one came out to be around 28in not 23in i am going to have to figure out a new stitch count, maybe the female size, i will see how many stitches it is off then adjust accordingly. I am going to make the lining smaller widthwise by like 3-4 sts, 5inches was enough for lining with ribbing. However, I will knit to 7.5 in for the hat to make sure it will be long enough, will cross that bridge when I get to it.
Nothing wrong with the pattern but I think having Chunky, non feltable wool (mostly microfiber) and just the fluffiness of this fiber since it was 23in on the needles… washed turning into 28-30 for the smaller hat size I made…
So… NEW Plan:
Cast-on for New Men’s Size: 72 sts.
1.5in ribbing
1 row knit, 1 row purl (so the band doesn’t curl up as I am knitting or when he wears it)
3.5in of stockinette stitch for a total of 5in
purl row
increased hat to 75sts (kfb, k23)x3
knit to 7 inches in stockinette since ear to crown is 7in.
Decreased 3 sts to 72sts
Then Decreases as written
FINAL MEASUREMENTS:
8in from crown to purl ridge
23in wide when stretched for top part
22.5 in when stretched for bottom part
5in below purl ridge and ribbing at 1.5in so give extra give since its a bit smaller then the 23in needed.
FROGGED VERSION!!
Cast-on for men’s size: 112 sts.
1in ribbing
5in of stockinette stitch
purl row
knit row
then decrease to fit hat
K3, K2tog, (K13 K2tog) 7 times, K2 to 104sts for 23in around
knit to 7 inches in stockinette since ear to crown is 7in.
Decreases as written
Ended up being 28in around so hand felted it slightly.
