What’s going on here?

I purchased two balls of yarn from Quarter Stitch in New Orleans at some point in 2016. I could not remember what they looked like until I un-bagged them on my livestream. I improvised a shawl loosely based on a plaid texture.

Needless to say, the colors are fabulous, but the plaid texture did not come out right at all. That said, I’d love to work with this yarn again if I can get a hold of it!
