Notes

I really love this pattern & I really love this yarn. I decided to do neon yellow & orange (my favorites) with a dark grey, instead of light grey. I also had to think about the color repeats a little, if I would have known there were four blocks of color with the short row stripes in between I may have added bright pink to the very end. Oh well, it’s cool how it is now. :)

P.S. (a note on my color choice) - Unfortunately I saw a guy at the bus stop this morning & he was wearing a safety construction vest: I realized it was the EXACT same color combo. I may need to rename this the “construction worker safety shawl.”

9/21 - Cast on immediately after buying the yarn & bringing it home to wind on my freshly warranty-replaced ball winder. I’m going to do orange, grey, orange, yellow for the color repetition (um, it sounded right when I figured it out in my head?). I knit the entire first section, which isn’t much, but it’s cool. I don’t think I’ve EVER knit a shawl before! It’s fun. i couldn’t figure out why I was doing the k2tog while increasing at the same time until a few rows in & realized it was making the arc along the opposite side. I’d give this a super easy rating but it actually takes some concentration until you get the repeat down. I accidentally switched edges after a few rows. In these kinds of stitch patterns it’s easier for me to just watch the knitting instead of reading line to line & I didn’t have the spacial concept of what I was doing at first. Now I get it & can see where I’m at in the four row repeat without checking the pattern so I’ll be good.

9/22 - Again, got thrown off on the pattern repeat with the short rows until I got the spacial conceptual grasp of what I was supposed to be doing. I missed a few k2togs & frogged a few rows. I added a couple extra stripes, 10 stripes total. I know it may change it but whatevs, it’s so big & awesome I don’t think it will make a big difference once it’s done. So far I am HOOKED!!! I think I feel a shawl obsession coming on…

9/23 - Finished the first two sections yesterday & kept knitting. For some reason the graphite feels not as soft as the peach. It’s a little crusty feeling but I know it will smooth out after washing, blocking & wearing. I LOVE THIS A LOT. I feel like it’s going to be a my portable blankie in disguise. :)

9/25 - I found some missed stitches about ten rows down in two separate spots on opposite ends. Honestly! I knit an insane amount yesterday & probably just got worn out. It took multiple attempts to fix each one, like three & four times of dropping & laddering stitches. I gave up last night & just went to bed. I fixed the remaining problem areas today. I am completely done with first color (orange), stripes, second color (black), stripes & half way through third color (yellow). I looked at my color choices & may need to add a fifth block at the end. I’ll see how it goes, but it’s going VERY quickly & as long as there’s enough yarn I’ll add maybe 15 rows of yellow at the very end after the last orange section.

9/27 - I decided I’m not doing the last row yellow. It’s already gargantuan & I’d need to go buy another skein of edison bulb. It will be fine the way it is. I’m in the home stretch, the last color block. Each row is like three feet long, this is taking F.O.R.E.V.E.R…

9/28 - Finished the last of the last rows! It took FOREVER to bind off the edge. I did a sewn bind off. By the time I got to the middle the yarn was so weak it split. It’s ok though, the sewn bind off gave it a great stretchy edge & looks perfect with the garter rows.
