01/19/2013 -- I have so much yarn left over from Jacklyn’s Ginkgo that I decided to try taking the lace pattern and making a slouch hat to go with it. I will make notes and if it works out, I will post what I did.
01/21/2013 -- I either cast on way too many stitches or knit them on too big a needle. After knitting two inches of 1 X 1, I am going to have to rip back to the beginning.
01/22/2013 -- Things are back on track, I cast on 120 and did a 2 X 2 rib for about 2 inches, then I did one row of knit and then increased to 150 by k4, yo 30 times. After knitting 4 rounds, I began knitting the lace pattern. I used the left side of the chart and since I was knitting in the round, I used the appropriate knit increase. (No need to do any of the purl rows or purl increases.) This makes the pattern go so much faster. I am on the fourth row of the second set of leaves.
01/27/2013 -- The hat and shawlette are both blocked and are currently drying. The dye in the yarn was not really stable. I let it soak for 30 minutes and when I went back to rinse it, it looked like blood in the water. It took several rinses with cold water for the water to run clear.
My notes on how I did the hat are as follows:
Cast on 120 stitches using size US 6 circular needle. (If I had to do it again, I would have used a US 5 or a US 4 -- the ribbing is very loose.)
Join, making sure not to twist your work and place a marker to mark beginning of the row.
Knit 2 inches of 2 X 2 ribbing, ending at marker.
Knit 1 row. Then beginning at marker K4, yo (30 times). You will end the row with 150 stitches. Knit 4 complete rows.
Then using the chart from the shawlette pattern knit 10 repeats of the center panel on the left side of the spine. Knit. See pictures for a note on the chart.
Then knit decrease rows as follows.
“K09, k2tog,” repeat to marker, knit one row to marker,
“K08, k2tog,” repeat to marker, knit one row to marker,
“K07, k2tog,” repeat to marker, knit one row to marker,
“K06, k2tog,” repeat to marker, knit one row to marker,
“K05, k2tog,” repeat to marker, knit one row to marker,
“K04, k2tog,” repeat to marker, knit one row to marker,
“K03, k2tog,” repeat to marker, knit one row to marker,
“K02, k2tog,” repeat to marker, knit one row to marker,
“K01, k2tog,” repeat to marker, knit one row to marker,
“k2tog,” repeat to marker, knit one row to marker, there will be 13 stitches on your needles
k2tog 6 times, knit one, cut thread pull through the remaining 7 stitches. Bury ends into work, block and trim ends.
