Sock #3 for the March-April 2017 SK Sock Hop. Not my 1st or 2nd choice, but apparently a pattern that’s easy enough for me to be able to follow it! Using Opal yarn after some Sock-Ease and loving the difference! My fingers were rubbed raw by the Sock-Ease and I hated every stitch.
Anyway, I wanted to try TAAT toe-up again and this is a very easy pattern. I went to Stitch Fiddle and made a chart (pattern was chartless) and love it! Very easy to use and no problem dl’ing the finished chart.
I went from 32 to 66 sts on the sole needle for the gusset sts, 17 per side. I added the gusset sts in 4 rows, starting at about 6” from the toe and ending right before the heel turn at 8-1/4” from toe. I left 12 sts unworked in the middle of the heel. I managed to get one sock about 1/2” longer than the other when they were on separate needles for the heel. sigh I don’t know HOW I DO THAT! Anyway, I attempted to “fix” the problem by leaving more sts unworked in the middle of the heel, thus shortening the heel turn and the length of the sock foot. I’m not sure that I have one foot longer than the other, but I’m all set, just in case I do. Sheesh!
I measured the heel flap after the socks were done and it (they) was barely 2” long. Obviously, I need to add more gusset sts! At least 20 sts per side - that should give me a long enough heel flap.
I used the Sewn Bind Off and it was easy and just as fast as any other bind off. I had loads of the yarn left over, so don’t believe it takes 4 times the length of whatever you are binding off. It was stretchy enough, but didn’t look as corrugated as JSSBO. It was a lot easier on my hands, tho. :)
