23 Dec - all done! I used a print o’ the wave lace for the border and Doris’s Edging from Heirloom Knitting for the edging. Some nontraditional but clever tricks I used:
-
yarn over mitered corners on the corners of the border. I only added pattern repeats after a garter section, otherwise i YO/k2toged the added stitches.
-
For the edging, I double anchored 2 stitches before the corner and then did 2 short rows on either side of the corner row (attaching only one stitch to that row. I started the short rows on the other side of the eyelet section.
11 Dec: Progress slowed due to missing some decreases, and starting on Greg’s Hat, but I’ll be finished with the middle by tomorrow I think.
7 Dec: Averaging about 1 ball a day, and my plans for the border are getting more… ambitious. Getting to a multiple of 12+9 for the middle took about an extra half a ball, so I definitely Need Moar Yarn.
5 Dec: Doing the center diagonally, with eyelet increases and decreases - basically a giant dishcloth. I have 5 balls so I think 1.5-2 balls for the center will be about right.
After seeing the pictures of Crown Prince Frederik and Mary Thomas and their twins, I am seized with the desire to make a traditional white blanket for the baby. Can I finish it before the baby finishes baking? We shall see.
