I was originally planning to make this for a friend, but I had an epiphany that the colorway of the yarn includes my grandmother’s favorite colors and that this style of neckwarmer would suit her sense of fashion (Manhattan flamboyant chic) perfectly.

Since Grandma is no spring chicken (she’ll be 99 in March), I opted for a shawl pin in place of buttons, but I couldn’t find anything that matched the neckwarmer and wasn’t breakable, so I made a closure to match with polymer clay. It came out very nicely, but I think Grandma may use one of her brooches instead.

Cashmere 5 is fabulous to work with. I can’t get over how it holds together even though the plies aren’t twisted. When she wasn’t wearing it, my grandmother kept picking up the neckwarmer and stroking the fabric.

I’m pretty sure she likes it.
