Notes

Sleeves & shoulders heavily modified to make the sleeves more normal. Used math to do this. Sleeves came out like slim-dolman. Everything in the round bc my sewing is terrible. Madelinetosh Dandelion linen blend matches the earthy Noro colors, yay!!

These triangles are addicting! Making another one, recalculating sleeves hope it works. Daily updates in this blog post and this post. Final post here.

Yarn is madelinetosh dandelion in winter wheat for MC, it’s 10% different from TML (10% linen); and Noro Taiyo Sock (again) in S49 for CC, has some oranges, yellows, olives, and corals.

Assuming same gauge, 24x44 blocked garter and 24x48 unblocked garter.

Note: it’s really hard to measure triangle edges so it is much more accurate to work rows based on gauge.

Another Note: the dandelion did not grow as much in blocking as the tosh merino light.

Starting with sleeves!
Sleeve triangle sets were worked like this (triangle increases are only at the joined edge of triangles – this is the underarm seam – the other edge is worked straight):

  • CO 3
  • (row 1) Left triangle in first st, purl underarm seam st, right triangle in third st
  • (row 2) Knit
  • (row 3) (left triangle) Knit to last st of left triangle, m1r, k1; purl seam st; (right triangle) k1, m1l, knit to end
  • (row 4) Knit
  • Repeat last 2 rows until 17sts per triangle

Moved arm shaping from CDD at top of arms as in pattern to underarm seam:

  • (increase row, rs) Knit to 3 sts before seam st, m1l, k2, m1r, k1; p1; k1, m1l, k2, m1r, knit to end (= 19sts)
  • Repeat increase row every 6th row for a total of 6 times before joining in round

Join in round after 64 rows / 32 garter ridges = 33 sts + 6 increase sts (=39 sts) per triangle, 79 sts total:

  • Cut yarn, slip left triangle and seam sts
  • Rejoin yarn at right triangle, k1, m1l, knit to 1 st before end; k2tog last st of right triangle and first st of left triangle (center stitch); knit to 1 st before seam st , m1r, k1; p1 (seam st, round end) = 39 sts per side + 1 center st + 1 seam st, 80 sts total
  • Purl around

Continue sleeve in-the-round:

  • (round 1, rs) K1, m1l, knit to 1 st before center st, CDD, knit to 1 st before seam st, m1r, k1; p1 (seam st)
  • (round 2, ws) Purl around
  • Repeat rounds 1 & 2
  • (increase round, rs) K1, m1l, k2, m1r, knit to 1 st before center st, CDD, knit to 3 sts before seam st, m1l, k2, m1r, k1; p1 (seam st)
  • Repeat increase round every 6th round, 15 times total = 48 sts per side + 1 center st + 1 seam st, 98 sts total
  • Continue until sleeve measures 58 garter ridges (34.5 cm) at underarm seam

Separate sleeve triangles for gusset:

  • Continue one more RS round
  • (WS) Turn and knit to end, CO 1
  • (RS) Turn and k2, m1l, k to center, CDD, k to 2 before end, m1r, k2 (knit seam st)
  • Continue for 19 rows total (10 ridges), knit all WS rows, end with WS row
  • Put on holder, total should be 136 rows / 68 garter ridges / 39.5cm at underarm seam (this is before blocking, for blocked length of 47cm including 4cm cuff at my gauge)

Make 2.

Lower filler triangles (start in round so first CC stripe connects around as in my seamed Trestle):

  • Pick up and knit 34 per triangle (1 st per garter ridge + 1, + 1 more for seam st), starting at seam and RS facing (this is the left triangle)
  • (WS) Purl around
  • (RS) As in pattern except around
  • (WS) Purl around
  • (RS) As in pattern around
  • (WS) Turn and continue as in pattern in rows
  • Continue until end

Same Noro striping as in my first Trestle.

Cuff (slightly shorter than in pattern):
Pick up 48 sts (20cm), purl first round. Continue around in garter for 10 ridges. Knit 1 more round and BO on WS purlwise US7, total 11 ridges (4cm).

Do one cuff, then body & yoke until color repeat comes around again, then do second cuff.

Body almost same as for My First Trestle. Body length to 120 rows / 60 ridges, 36cm blocked; add 6cm hem = total 42cm blocked from underarm.

Waist shaping decreases at 15th ridge, 20th, 25th (9, 12, 15cm; after 29, 38, 47 sts), and increases at 33rd, 40th ridge (20, 24cm; after 62 sts, on 7th ridge):

  • (decrease row, RS) 5 sts before side seam st: ssk, k2, m1r, k1; p1; k1, m1l, k2, k2tog, cont
  • (increase row, RS) 3 sts before side seam st: m1l, k2, m1r, k1; p1; k1, m1l, k2, m1r, cont

Separate for gussets at last 19 rows (last 5.5 cm, 10 ridges) of body. Start with WS row and CO 1 at each end for whichever side doesn’t get the side seam sts.

Hem BO on WS purlwise US8.

Yoke in-the-round with round start between back of right sleeve and back. Traveling jogless stripes again. Same as before (CDD at back, sides of sleeves, and front), but modified shoulders.

Increase for shoulders by omitting sleeve CDDs. At stripe of 5 garter ridges in CC, start first CDD skip at ridge 3. Continue this pattern of CDD skipping (numbers count garter ridges):

  • 1 skip, 1 normal
  • 2 skip, 1 normal
  • 3 skip, 1 normal (this section should line up with where you want the cap of the shoulder to be)
  • 2 skip, 1 normal
  • 1 skip, continue normally

Adds 18 sts per front/back total to bring st count up to same as pattern (modified sleeves ended with 99 sts, pattern sleeves end with 117 sts, thus need 18 more sts for size 34”).

Gussets narrower and shorter. Increase / decrease only every other garter ridge rather than ever garter ridge. Continue increases until 13 sts on needle. Then 2 straight garter ridges between last increase ridge and first decrease ridge. 12 ridges per side.
