Knitted with DK yarn, using the 12 month stitch count and the 6 month measurements, to get a 6 month size.
The most accurate colour is that of the cardi photographed on its own, without the hat. The other photos make it look more greenish, which it isn’t.
This will be teamed with a pair of baby jeans and a long sleeved deep pink top underneath, plus a matching “Republic” hat.
(Gracie’s Boheme being modelled by Chloe, who liked it so much I knitted an identical set for her, May 13-16…
…. and because I’m sentimental, second - over exposed - photo is of Holly, Chloe’s baby sister wearing Chloe’s set two years later.)
MODS:
-
4 stitches worked in garter stitch at beginning and end of the rows, to eliminate curling.
-
I’ve increased every few rows in the body (skirt) part of the cardi, to make it look less narrow and straight when worn. Just an increase each side of the middle stitch on each side, so 4 sts per row. I did this about three times, spaced about 6 rows apart.
-
Buttonholes moved closer to edge.
-
There seems to be an error in the stitch count when the bodice is nearly finished and the sleeves about to be separated out. It says 164 stitches for the middle size, but I get 162 and can’t see how it can be anything but 162.
Thinking about the stitch count, I feel there’s possibly something needing correcting about the number of stitches for the back and the front. The fact that the fronts overlap by about 4 stitches (for the button fastening) should mean the back should have 4 FEWER stitches than the sum of the fronts, but it actually has 4 MORE. Need to think about this….
