I will try to make this with double thread alpaca from my stash. My gauge tells me that I should knit on one needle size smaller than the pattern, and make a pattern size smaller than I´d normally choose.

It worked out really well, and I have been wearing this cardigan all the time. It´s so soft and warm!
One change I did was to knit and the sleeves in stockinette, instead of garter stitch, and then hem them. This gives them a little more body.
