Notes
  • After knitting the first rabbit (will be Detention Spring 2016 homework), I decided to knit the rest of the rabbits from the “bottom” up. I started at the tail and reversed the pattern’s instructions to the neck, then followed the pattern’s directions as stated from the neck up (I replaced the original cast on and pick up stitches rounds with 2 stockinette stitch rounds.
  • I tried to ignore the wrapped stitches by working them as knit/purl, and ended up thinking back to knit the wraps. For the wrapped stitches made on the private/purl/wrong side, I set them on my needle and worked them through the back loop. The next round, I untwisted the picked up stitches.
  • For the legs, I did a long-tail cast on 3 stitches. By keeping the tail and working yarn on the left side of the left needle, I knit a row as in icord. Still keeping the yarn as if in icord, I then kfb each stitch (I put 2 stitches per DPN) to create the required 6 stitches.
  • To make sewing and seaming easier, I left 2-3 inches of ends at the ear tips and legs. I discovered the extra yarn at the ear tips helped in seaming the head and ears, while the extra ends of the legs helped to secure the button-eyes.

The goal is to knit as many bunnies as possible for Tess’ Designer Yarns. The little guys will be part of Tess’ and Melinda’s MD S&W booth.

I managed 6 bunnies -- 2 pale grey and 4 ivory. The greys and 1 ivory have the black button eyes that Melinda and Tess sent to me while the other 3 ivories have the snap eyes from my stash of notions.
