I just used stash yarn for this little owl. I made him as practice, because my boss commissioned a Nelson from me and I wanted to have some experience with the pattern!

It was a little tricky to sew the face circles on because the pattern didn’t really say how to do it, but I sewed mine through the second round so that the tops of the circles are loose.

One other thing I learned while doing this is to make sure you leave a long tail of each color when finishing the head or body. I had to attach a separate piece of yarn so that I didn’t sew through the belly with the dark brown!
