Notes

I wanted some mitts that would keep the rest of my hand warm when I need to use the touch screen on my iPhone. It turns out that this is a great free pattern, and really nicely written.

I did make a couple of small mods..

  1. I knit on DPNs, not magic loop.

  2. I didn’t bother with the thumb flap as I only use my index finger when prodding my phone

  3. I added a button hole to the finger flap, so that they can be held closed as mittens. (This way, I can still wriggle one finger free of the closed mitts when it is v. cold, without having to have the whole flap open)

  4. I think I may also add another button to hold the flap open, for when I want to wear them as fingerless gloves.

It’s the second time I’ve used this Crofter yarn and I really like the effect and the colourways. The fibre itself (a blend of wool/acrylic/cotton) is not as warm as pure wool, but it seems to be ok for London winters.
