About half way through the jacket I ran into a knot in the skein. I decided to just cut out the knot and rejoin the yarn without worrying about trying to match the point in the color sequence. It turns out that the remainder of the skein had the colors going in the opposite direction. (A little further investigation determined that it was the beginning/inside of the skein that was wound the wrong direction.) If I were making just about any other pattern I would have rewound the rest of the skein and worked from the other end, but given the mitered design and the fact that the color reversal hit at right about the middle I decided it would be just fine to continue as it was.

I ended up liking the the way the colors had striped better on the “wrong side” so I sewed it up inside-out. I made that decision before I started the ruffle since I didn’t want to have a ruffle on the side where the buttons will be.

The ruffle was made by doubling the stitches in rows 95 and 96 along the entire length of the rows except for the stitches that form the side where the buttons are placed. I picked up stitches around the neck and on the sleeve cuffs to add ruffles there as well. This adorable creation was my inspiration for the ruffle.
