Notes

My son asked me to make him this pot holder. The elemental symbols are light (sun in center), darkness (skull), nature (tree), water, and fire. It is based on Wizards of the Coast - Magic.

It was great fun figuring out how to put this pot holder together. I drew the symbols, which I got by taking pictures of the cards when I visited my son, on knitting graph paper. I also used the “pixelate” feature on Picasa photo editor, which put things (more or less) into squares, which helped considerably when I began to draw on the graph paper.

I used the double knitting techniques that I learned from the instructions from S-G Creations pot holder patterns, sixlegged on Ravelry. Thank you, Sue!

If I were to make another pot holder like this, I would make the center Light/sun significantly larger, more dominant, and with its rays extending further toward and even into the 4 corner elemental symbols. It now seems a little dwarfed or diminished by the thickness of the corner symbols. I would also thin out the corner symbols and try to make them more recognizable.
