Less than a week before his arrival, I hunted for a cute non-stressful knit for me to work on! (aka…an already written pattern as opposed to me working up yet another new one for him :)) I love Carina’s work and this hoodie is so stinking cute! Took me less than a day to knit the smallest size.
My yarn photo makes the blue look navy, its really got some gorgeous green in it! No idea on the colorway of the orange, as it was in my tosh-dk stash but tagless. I was going to go with Charcoal as CC but my 4 year old was insistent on the orange. He’s probably right as kids look great with bold contrasting colors like that!
A few simple mods
Gauge: I knitted this in tosh dk instead of vintage (worsted) as the pattern calls for. With the 8’s I was close to gauge but slightly looser which I’m totally fine with as I intend for him to get to wear this a little in the fall! I’m hoping it’ll be loosely knit enough for him to wear here in the SC summer (when in AC of course…) but we shall see.
Pockets: I added some wee little pockets seamlessly by working the pocket linings separately then knitting them directly onto the sweater. Easy peasy when knitting bottom-up.
Sleeves: Alas I did not want to modify the sleeves! However, I ran out of CC so didn’t have enough to do the ribbed sleeve called for. At first I tried doing the garter rib on the sleeves as written but in MC, however it just didn’t look right. So I ripped and knit the sleeves in the round (including the short rows) and skipped the stitch pattern, then I switched to CC & garter rib just for the last 4 rounds. I’m happy but in my ideal world I would have had enough of CC! I had about 6 inches left over at the end :)
I loved this little knit. Highly recommend.
