Cotton yarn like this really has nothing to recommend it - it’s horribly splitty, hard and unforgiving to knit with, and a dull and dreary surface. Good thing it was just a sample. I never want to use it again.
The pattern on the other hand was clear and simple with a very cute result.

Cast on 12st white. Knit 1 row. Change to red and knit 3 rows. K1 k2tog k2 k2tog k2 k2tog k1. Knit 2 rows. K1 k2tog k1 k2tog k1 k2tog. Knit 1 row. K2tog three times, cut yarn and pull trough remaining 3st. Make 3st bobble in white at the top.
