General
ETA 2015-11-18: This has stood up to regular use much better than I feared. It keeps it shape without any sagging and doesn’t pill much either.
- Shepherd Worsted is a dream to work with the first time but tinking makes it splitty and unraveling a longer section makes it limp and sad. I worry a little how the finished pullover will stand up to wear.
- The colourway is almost impossible to photograph. The pics of the unfinished pullover probably come closest to the real shade.
- Very simple pattern but I would much have prefered shortrows to shape the neckline. This version makes for a very untidy edge.
Mods
- I made the broken ribb section longer - 9cm instead of 7.5 - I love the way it looks and how soft and squishy it is to touch.
- My gauge is a bit off - 22st&27r - so I made 4 more raglan increases, i.e. 72st on each sleeve & 106st on front and on back.
- Body: 212st + added 10st in each side, a total of 232st. Increased every 20th round 5 times, 252st. Started ribbing after 34cm, knitted broken rib for 13 rows (4cm). Cast off.
- Sleeves: 72st + picked up 10st under the arm, a total of 82st. Decreased every 12th round 11 times, 60st total. Started cuff after 46cm, knitted broken rib for 13 rows (4cm). Cast off.
- Neckline: picked up 124 stitches and knit 1k1p rib for 10 rows. Cast off, folded it inside and tacked down - hiding the uneven edging inside.
Timeline
2015-06-12: Figures I would start a wollen pullover on the warmest day yet this year :-)
2015-06-13: Made a mistake in an increase and had to unravel a couple of cm.
2015-06-14: I think I might have prefered a “normal” short-row neck but I’ll have to see how it looks with the ribbing first.
2015-06-17: Separated the sleeves and started on the body.
2015-06-18 - 06-28: Hibernating while I’m on vacation.
2015-06-29: Started again.
2015-07-03: Took a break from the body and started on the right sleeve.
2015-07-05: Finished the right sleeve. Discovered my brain had gotten turned around when I calculated the increases for the body and had to unravel almost 13cm, grrr!
2015-07-06: Started on the left sleeve.
2015-07-08: Finished the left sleeve and started on the body again.
2015-07-13: Difficult to judge the length without a proper neckline so I decided to knit that before finishing the body. I’m doing a folded neckline so I can hide the very unsightly edging inside it. It will be slightly thicker but will look almost like a tubular cast-off.
2015-07-14: Finished the neckline.
2015-07-17: Finished!
