ETA 10 Jan 2015: I should have knitted them on 3mm needles. There’s not enough give in them to be comfortable to wear for any length of time. Or maybe it’s my hands that’s gotten even more swollen than they were. Went to the recycling centre.

Mods

• Cast on 56 stitches.
• Turn-in edge 2cm plain stockinet, one row purled, one more row plain before starting with the stripes.
• 5cm stripes before start of thumb gusset.
• Start gusset with two stitches instead of one - after first stitch on 3rd needle for right mitt and before last stitch on 2nd needle for left - and use increase method from Julekuler. Finished thumb gusset is 22 stitches.
• After thumb gore is finished added 5cm more of stripes. One plain row, one purled row, 7 rows plain stockinet = c.1.5cm for turn-in.
• Picked up 4 more stitches for thumb = 26 stitches. Knitted 3cm of stripes. Then one plain, one purled, and 5 rows plain stockinet = c.1cm for turn-in.

Timeline
2014-08-18: Cast on 56 stitches. Making a turn-in edge in purple instead of the ribbing.
2014-08-20: Don’t like the look of the thumb increases so unraveled and restarted with other method. Looks much better!
2014-08-22: Finished first mitt.
2014-08-23: Started second mitt.
2014-08-28: Finished!! But no photos until tomorrow after they’ve dried.
