Notes

ETA 23-04-13: I love the colour and texture but the shape is all wrong so I never wear it. Since the yarn stood up well to frogging I will use it for something else.

General
Matching gloves and hat.
Excellent pattern. Very clear and concise without all the unnecessary verbiage so many modern patterns seem prone to. The shawl has just enough variation to prevent it from becoming boring while being simple enough to let the rows just fly by. And I love that it looks just as nice on both sides!
I’m using a fingering weight yarn instead of dk but I have plenty of yarn so I can always add sections if I don’t think it’s large enough.
Yarn is very soft and has lovely rich colours but I suspect it will be prone to pilling.

Mods

  • Knitted Section 1 + Section 2 + Section 3 + Section 4 + Section 3 (381st) + Section 4 (775st) + Secton 5 (797st) + Garter border.
  • Didn’t knit the last four rows of garter stitch in Section 5. Instead I took the three stitch garter edge “around the corner” and used it as a bottom border (see photo) - K3, turn, k3, turn. Then * k2 k2tbl, turn, k3, turn * until the end of the row. K3, turn, k3, turn. Graft with garter edge on other side.

Timeline
2016-01-30: Cast on and knitted first section.
2016-01-31: Knit section two.
2016-02-02: Finished third section.
2016-02-04: Finished section four and started on section third again. Will repeat these two until the shawl is as large as I want it.
2016-02-12: Finished the first repeat of section three and started on the first repeat of section four.
2016-02-14: Finished the repeat of section four and started on the final section.
2016-02-22: Finished section five and started on a very modified garter border.
2016-03-04: Finished the knitting! Soaked and blocked.
