Notes

General
The yarn is lovely to work with! So smooth and soft and spun tight enough not be splitty but not so much it gets twisty. After washing it gets a small but distinct halo, lovely and soft. And the drape is lovely.
Love the finished pullover! It’s so silky-soft and the lines are wonderful.

Mods
I have an oversized t-shirt I love that I’m using as a template (see last image) so I’m only using the pattern as a rough guideline. I’m also using thinner yarn so my gauge is off - roughly 25 stitches x 37 rows = 10x10cm.

  • Cast on 352 stitches - 176 stitches x two, knitting in the round.
  • Knitted the broken rib on 2.75mm needles.
  • Changed to 3.25mm for the stockinet.
  • Faux side seams: 1 stitch twisted purl in each side.
  • Separated front & back & added a new skein but continued to knit both at once. Lifted last st in each side purlwise with yarn in front and knitted the first.
  • Front neck shaping: knitted 60st & placed shoulder marker, knitted 22st, bound off 13st (should have been 12 but miscounted when separating front & back so had 177st in front and 175 in back instead of 176st each) knitted another 22st & placed shoulder marker, knitted remaining 60st. On next row started decreases on each side of bindoff - while still knitting back and forth across both front and back - 1stitch 1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th, and 9-18th time, 2stitches 2nd, 4th, 6th, and 8th time = 18 times on each side = 36 rows.
  • Front shoulder short rows: Started on 16th row after neck bindoff. Knit to 5st before end of row, make shadow wrap, turn, purl to 5st before end of row, make shadow wrap, turn, knit to 5st before first turn, make shadow wrap, turn etc 11 times = 22 rows. All the time working back and forth across the front while the back rests at the back of the needles. After doing the last turn (on left shoulder) knitted all the way down the right shoulder knitting the shadow wraps with their stitches. Cut yarn and started on back.
  • Back shoulder short rows: On first row place markers as in front (but only 55st in the middle) and started short rows as in the front, 5st in between 11 times = 22 rows. After doing the last turn (on the right shoulder) knitted to end of row (at neck) turned and purled all the way down purling shadow wraps with their stitches.
  • Back neck shaping: On 10th row bind off 11 stitches in the middle. On the next row start decreases while continuing to work back and forth - 4st 5 times, 2st 1 time = 6 times on each side = 12 rows.
  • Three-needle bindoff on right shoulder. Knitted (and purled) the left shoulders down to the sleeve opening. Three-needle bindoff again.
  • Neck: Picked up 64st on the front, 54 on the back and 1 on each shoulder = 120st. Knitted 5 rows of broken rib. Cast off.
  • Sleeves: Using 2.75mm needle picked up 50st on each side plus 1 in the shoulder bindoff and 1 in the twisted purl fake seam = 102 stitches. Knit to 7 stitches past the shoulder stitch, make shadow wrap and turn, purl to 7st on other side of bindoff stitch, make shadow wrap and turn etc 7 times on each side. Started knitting in the round making the stitch in the fake seam twisted purl as on the body. Decreased 1st on each side of this - knit first 2st together and last 2 ssk - every 3rd row 10 times, every 4th row 10 times, every 5th row 5 times = 52 stitches left. Knitted 18 more rows before changing to smaller needles and knitting 5 rows of broken rib & binding off.

Timeline
2015-09-08: I need something thick and warm for the coming season so I’m putting this into hibernation until I’ve finished this project.
2015-12-23: Now that the Yule-knitting is finally finished I can start with this again!
2015-12-30: Separated the front and back.
2016-01-10: Started with the front neck decreases.
2016-01-11: Started on the short rows for the front shoulders.
2016-01-12: Finished the front and started and finished the back. Did the right shoulder bindoff.
2016-01-13: Did left shoulder bindoff and the neck ribbing.
2016-01-14: Started on right sleeve.
2016-01-17: Arrrggghhhh! The sleeve is too wide! Had to unravel and start over from the beginning with the decreases closer together.
2016-01-18: Started the right sleeve again.
2016-01-21: Finished the right sleeve.
2016-01-22: Started on left sleeve.
