Following pattern, the block has an open back, showing the center of pansy. Made a solid block as follows:
Work pattern through round 4, then:
Rnd 1: With background color and larger hook, in magic circle, ch 2 (1st hdc), 7 hdc, sl st to join. (8 st)
Rnd 2: Ch 2 (1st hdc), hdc in same st, 2 hdc in ea st around, sl st to join. (16 st)
Rnd 3: Ch 1, (sc in same st, sc in next 2) around, sl st to join. (24 st)
Now continue with pattern round 5, also working the sc evenly spaced around in st of Rnd 3 above.

Leaf modification:
After making the third hdc in the last st of the foundation ch: ch-4 picot, (dc in next st, ch-4 picot) 3 times, hdc, ch-3 picot, sc in last, sl st to 1st sc, ch 1, cut yarn and pull end through lp. This will be the outer tip of the leaf.
