Notes

I designed a Water Lily Pad Granny Square to go with this.

Not too hard doing second color for wings. A bit trickier adding third color for the bodies. Take time and have patience and it goes well.

To make my version:

  • Reverse Left and Right Wings, so the shorter chain is the bottom part of the wing
  • Don’t join wings as instructed in pattern. Leave loose, complete square, then tack them down.
  • Tip: When joining color, carry background color under sts and keep pulled taut to avoid a loose gap where other colors were worked in; subsequent rnds will shape and firm up the sides.

Round 2:
* After the first right wing (on the pattern it is after the left wing, but remember you’re reversing the wing order and working left when it says right, and right when it says left) join body color to work the FPDC; after working right wing on opposite side of square, join body color when it says “YO 3 times”, but YO 4 times instead or you’ll be in a pickle with it pulling the square into a rectangle, particularly after you work the heads (popcorn stitches) on the next round.

Square finished at 4” with my yarn & hook. To bring it up to 6”:
Join green, 2dc-2ch-2dc corner, sk 3 sts, (V st, sk 2 sts across), sk last 3 sts of side to work next corner.
Join peach, (3dc-2ch-3dc corner, dc next 4, hdc next 11, dc next 4) repeat around
