An unexpected eBay bargain purchase has turned into the perfect yarn for a sweater that’s been on my mind since fall began to whisper.
I have way more yarn than I need, so I think I will lengthen the sleeves to 3/4. I’m not sure yet how I’ll do that….I’m thinking I’ll do a provisional cast-on, beginning the sleeves just about the ribbing as it is written and go back to knit the ribbing downward, perhaps in the round, fitting it (i.e., decreasing it) as I go. I think if I do a provisional cast-on at the beginning of the sleeves as-written, the ribbing will be off when I pick up the cast-on row. If you have a better idea, please let me know!
My row gauge is a full stitch off, so I have to make an alteration to the raglan shaping. I’ll have 12 sts too many when I get to the right length. If I get down to the final written st-count, I’ll be almost 2” too long. On this sweater, I’m not sure it’ll matter much. I might have to rip back to the underarm in order to decrease faster there, where the shape won’t be as compromised as at the shoulder. Hmm….
I may have to restart with a 4 and 5. :/
Restarted Nov. 1 with smaller needles.
I didn’t read the instructions for the sleeves. I wanted to lengthen them and thought they were increased in the ribbing, so I did a provisional cast-on and began at the stockinette portion so I could come back to the sleeve part. No increasing or decreasing. :P I’m dumb. Oh well. I added an inch to the ribbing because it’s hitting everyone at the elbow and I want a 3/4 length. I’m going to block everything and seam the one sleeve I have done before binding off just in case I want to add more length. I’m going to try Mimi’s ribbed bind-off technique and see if I can figure out the tubular cast-on for sleeve #2 so they might look similar. If it doesn’t look similar, she also has an alternate cast-on.
