I’m learning how to fair isle for my lady lover and I. :)
I’ll make a mainly red pair for her and I’ll make mine with the left-overs.
Ravelry Red looks more pink than red as I’m using it. Ehhh….Other than that, these mittens rock. I had to frog the cuff chart once because I wasn’t thinking and my corner floats were really tight. Now I’ve got the hang of this fair isle thing! I’m not sure if I’m tacking right, but my technique is working, so I’ll keep it. I’ve taught myself to fair isle. No YouTube or anything! :D
Third time’s the charm. Now I’ve got exact gauge and much fewer float tension issues. I’m going to have to figure out how to line them, at least the back of the hand. Jess’ shiny new engagement ring won’t get along with the floats. They are really cute. I’m pretty excited about them!
I finally started my own pair. I’m going to add some color (via duplicate stitch and a color change) to make the robot motifs more vibrant. The floats on the cuff of my first mitten are too tight for some reason, but the rest is going well, so I’m going to ignore it because I’m cold and have much other knitting to attend to. :)
My gauge and my color work look really loose and strange. The mitten fits too loosely, so I think I’ll frog and tighten everything up. I really like how it looks with the color change, but fair isle is really rough with three colors. :S
Just finished the first mitten for me! It’s pretty wonderful! I finally figured out how to make a good float, but I’ve got some super loose stitches that I just don’t know how to fix. A block will take care of some of them. Though the three strands at the top were a PAIN, they are going to keep my fingers cozy cozy cozy warm!
My pair has languished for a few years now. I got pretty far into the second mitt and realized the first one looked like crap, so I frogged the first mitt back to the cuff and finished the second. The second worked pretty well. I did some weird intarsia things that I’m not sure worked out quite right, but I will block them to see before I do the second mitt. That might take a few more years. :)
