Holy Kitchener stitch, Batman! Amy Singer used my Howlers in her presentation on sock design at the inaugural 2009 Sock Summit, & selected my photo for the 2010 Knitty Calendar! My feet have now had their 15 minutes of fame!!
’Howler Monkeys’, get it? This yarn is screamingly loud.
11/14: LOVE these socks! Pattern is good intro to lace knitting.
11/12: Second sock is done! All that’s left is weaving in ends, blocking, and a photo-op - saving that for tomorrow.
11/11: Foot is done! Only the toe is left…
11/8: Finished heel flap, heel turning, & gusset.
11/7: Done through 5 leg repeats.
11/6: Took ‘em to Purl ‘n Hurl tonight; folks oohed and ahhed over #1 while I got to the end of the 3rd repeat on #2.
11/4: I’m sure I won’t get any sympathy for what I’m about to say, but I was kinda sad that there were no lines at my polling place yesterday, ‘cuz I was ready w/ my Monkeys to knit on line. But I cast on and knit the cuff for #2 while watching the poll returns, ‘til I got so excited I couldn’t concentrate any longer.
11/3: Holy craptastic, Batman, I did it! I Kitchenered! I’ve always been intimidated by it, and always found another way to bind off; but not this time, oh no. I was gonna tackle the K-ner, and I was gonna conquer the K-ner. So I just followed the instructions laid out by Theresa Stenerson in her Grafting Tutorial on Knitty; easy peasy! If I’d known how simple it was going to be, I never would have waited so long (isn’t that how it always is?)! (Oh, yeah, I did 6 pattern repeats after the gusset, for a total of 12).
10/29: First sock, done to end of foot. Tomorrow: toe and my virginal Kitchener experience, woot!
10/28: Not loving this yarn. Feels nice in the skein, but very ‘acrylic-y’ hand when knit up. Also, there are lots of coarse hairs that, as a spinner, I would identify as guard hairs that need to be removed (or they could be stray nylon threads). Not a fan of the short color repeats, either. But I sure do love the bright colors! Finished heel, starting on foot tomorrow.
10/27: Took the pattern/yarn camping this weekend, and they’re knitting up like hair dye (nice ‘n easy). ;) Had a little trouble with the SSK stitch; learned I’ve been doing it WRONG all these years. All better now! After working on them Fri/Sat/Sun/Mon, I’m halfway through the heel flap on the first sock.
