I knit about 95% of this at Sock Summit last summer, during the Guinness World Record attempt for most simultaneous knitters. (There’s a picture of me working on it there in my project photos and a video HERE). I never knit on straights, but this was a special occasion; I even used my Nana’s vintage Boye needles.
The reason it took me so long to complete is because I couldn’t hit on an ending I liked. I tried several different things, but ended up with just letting the yarn & the simple seed stitch tell the story; I found a vintage buckle and paired it with my Nana’s bone crochet hook as a shawl pin combo.
RESURRECTED FOR RAVELYMPICS 2010

2/19/10: Removed the Scraptastic yarn, knit 2 more rows, bound off, and FINIS!
2/17/10: Found it! The perfect vintage closure.
2/16/10: Don’t think the Scraptastic I added, & don’t like the end foofiness, so I’m pulling that off & adding a button closure. But none in my collection of vintage buttons is ‘right’. Heading to Daisy Dry Goods tomorrow.
8/18/09: I’m just not feeling it. Spent some time surfing Ravelry for a better pattern, & got inspired by PurlDiva’s Scarfette using knitalette’s tutorial, Knit a Scarfette. Think I’ll dig up some good buttons & try it.
8/17/09: Too short, so I added more of my handspun, one of my Scraptastic yarns. Just not digging on this. To frog or not to frog?
8/13/09: Took it to Purl ‘n Hurl tonight & almost finished it. Just need to bind off; but it might be too short?
8/7/09: I got to participate in the Guinness Book of World Records attempt to break the most simultaneous knitters record at Sock Summit ‘09. Wow.
I brought my own handspun and my Nana’s vintage Boye needles (straights were required to meet Guinness’ rules) for an extra dose of nostalgia.
