Elizabeth Savelle Garcia
My love of needle arts began at an early age seeing my mom sew most of my clothes as a child. She started me on cross stitch and eventually taught me all the basics of sewing garments. Later, I majored in Costume Design in college where I learned how to create and execute on a vision with fabric (and other materials).
I came to knitting after a knee surgery in 2005, needing an activity to keep my mind and hands busy while I spent a few months on the couch recovering. I instantly fell in love with the versatility of wearable, functional art made with two sticks and some string. Designing items was a logical progression, and a path I followed within a few months. I’ve only recently decided to formalize my designs into published patterns.
I live in the woods on beautiful Bainbridge Island, Washington, which inspires many of my designs. The Pacific Northwest climate requires a range of cozy knits for much of the year, which is just the way I like it!
I would love to see your finished projects here and on Instagram!
