This is a simple k1 p1 rib scarf. Use 30 stitches wide by 400 rows (4 rows per year over 100 years) for small scarves or 40sts x 600 rows for large. Of course, you can modify ANY plain scarf pattern to change colours following the temperature charts to create your own accurate climate scarf.

If you would prefer a style other than a ‘footy scarf’ consider a the Quick Climate Scarf or the Impressionist Climate Scarf or Temperatures are Rising Climate Scarf that are based on the global temperature scarf but are more impressionistic.

Materials
This scarf is a variation on the Common Grace Climate scarf of 16 colours but simplified to just 6 colours with a beige/neutral shade for the long term average. Two light shades of similar colour intensity are chosen, one a cool colour and one a warm colour, representing the first deviation from the long term temperature average. Two medium colours are chosen for the second deviation, and a dark, hot, colour is needed for the third deviation to illustrate the hottest temperatures. A full 50g ball is usually needed for colours 2, 3, and 4, while only small amounts are needed of colours 1, 5 and 6. See the individual charts.
