Islington MKAL
Compiled version of the pattern is now available. Clues 1-6 are also still up, so if you want to do it MKAL style you may! Or just download the “masterpattern” file for the full version.
Yardage requirements have been adjusted in the compiled pattern and on this page to reflect MKAL results.
This is an expanded-triangle/Faroese hybrid, top-down, lace & cabled shawl which sits beautifully on the shoulders. If you liked Temple and Arch, Regrowth, or both, I think you’ll love this pattern!
Techniques involved include garter tab start, Vikkel braiding, cables, and extra-large YOs; all are explained in the pattern. Chart reading is required. There is some WS k/p patterning but no WS lace. You can do it! And we’ll be here to help.
Yarn selection: gauge isn’t crucial to this pattern, but you probably don’t want to go with a lighter-weight yarn than fingering weight as it may cause your cables to lose definition. Sport or probably even DK would be fine. Semisolids, tonals, and gradients are great choices for this pattern.
Purchasing the pattern prior to the MKAL start will give you access to Clue 0, with information on yarn, needles, notions, gauge, stitches, etc. The first actual knitting clue will be released Sept 6, and weekly thereafter, for six total knitting clues. If you’d like to knit this pattern but not as a mystery knit, all purchasers will have access to a compiled single-document version once the MKAL is complete.
Join us in the MKAL thread for this pattern to debate yarn choices, ask questions, share your progress… :)
