R for the ribbons, she ties round her head
One of my favorite childhood books was “A is for Annabelle” by Tasha Tudor. As my mom would read the simple alphabet book over and over, I remember wishing that my grandmother had such an elegant doll with all her fascinating accessories.
This sock pattern is was designed in reference to the part of the book which talks about the ribbons for the doll’s hair. Ribbons She Ties is a toe-up sock with a heel flap and gusset. The side of the sock is adorned with a simple cable pattern that resembles a twisted ribbon. Three bows are knit into the cable pattern near the cuff of the sock. When designing this pattern, I was first inspired by hair ribbons. As I took more inspiration from the illustrations throughout the book, I also became inspired by the fashion of the mid 1800’s. As a result, these socks also have some inspiration from corsets and beautifully detailed Victorian gowns.
Because I love adding variations, the instructions also include directions for moving the placement of the cables to either the center front or center back of the sock. Some of my testers have examples of the sock knit with the cables and bow up the center back.
This is the third pattern in a four pattern collection that will feature whimsical designs based on the book “A is for Annabelle.” These designs will incorporate both cables and lace in fun and interesting ways. Grab the eBook now for $8.50, the price will increase with the introduction of each new pattern. An Elegant Feather and All Trimmed with Lace have already been released from this collection.
