Traditional Orenburg lace patterns are used in the charts, but I created them in a classical way to shows decreases. In traditional Orenburg charts only yarn-over’s would be shown. This is a pattern for the advanced knitter. 1) Square shawl – 225 sts wide (edging not included); Chart A, A1. 2) Large square shawl – 321 sts wide; Chart B, B1. 3) Stole, variant 1 – 153 sts wide; Chart C (optional length with 37 or 41 edge repeats). 4) Stole, variant 2 – 185 sts wide; Chart D (optional length with 43 or 47 edge repeats).
Approximate yarn utilization, with 10% shrinkage in parentheses, for yarn, 800 m/ 720 yds in 100g): • Chart A – about 1560m / 1404 yds, • Chart B – about 2950m / 2650 yds, • Chart C – 1543m / 1400 yds, • Chart D – 1930m / 1740 yds.
Depending on your knitting style, you may use less or more of the yarn stated. This shawl has 5 pieces: square center (body) and 4 identical borders. Traditionally these shawls are made as one piece, the pattern has grafting photo tutorial.
