Ply experiment blogged here. Finish post blogged here.
Finished first large skein on Jan 9, 2015. Finished second on February 12th, 2015.
singles: 2350 ypp and 25 wpi spun on middle whorl of regular flyer. Spun ‘loosely worsted’, not inchworm, occasionally from the fold, but not long draw either.
3-ply: 900 ypp, 10-11 wpi, approx. worsted/aran. Treadled 4-5 x per length on the largest whorl of regular flyer.
Got 900 ypp on the scale, but when measuring the finished skeins it worked out to 600 ypp, so I took an average. Skein 1 was 306 yds prior to finishing (153 x around 72-inch winder) and skein 2 was 438 yards (219 x around). After finishing, measured length of skeins while flattened and multiplied by 2 for circumference (skein 1 = 60” and skein 2 = 56”). Therefore, yardage is likely somewhere between 595 and 745 yards.
