This is my first sweater design.
While working on my first bohus sweater, I was reading Brian Greene’s book about string theory.
I started thinking about the theory and how vibrations of strings may make up everything in the universe. My thoughts lead me to dream up a pattern. I thought it could work with a bohus-type technique incorporating purl stitches to add texture and as a way to “melt” one color into the next. In short, I wanted to create a “quantum” view of this hypothesized universe in a sweater. :)
July 20th Yarn is here! This will officially be swatched tonight.
I’m a little disappointed in the Cornsilk colorway; it’s a little more green than the lemony color I expected, but I think it will still work out.
July 22nd The yoke is finished, and I really am loving the result. I was more than a little skeptical of the color combination when I started, but now that the yoke is completed, I’ve got to say, I’m quite pleased.
The harsh sunlight in the progress picture makes the colors appear far more saturated than they are. The actual coloring on the sweater is softer, and the halo of the yarn is a nice complement.
July 31st I finished the body and one of the sleeves and I’m not in love with the fit so I’m going to rip out about eight inches this evening and try again. I think this may be close to finishing by the weekend.
August 5th I could have finished this weekend if I hadn’t gone to see Alabama Shakes on Thursday (right on the rail! What a great show!!) and watched Curiosity landing on Mars tonight. As it is, I only have to sew down the collar and block.
August 6th Resonance is on the blocking boards. It should be dry by tomorrow.
August 7th All finished! I’m going to try to write up a pattern in different sizes so others can make it if they wish.
