Last year at this time I had the urge to make a Bee Keeper’s Quilt. I resisted, knowing that it was an unfinished project waiting to happen! Then I saw a jar of hexipuffs in a yarn shop and the urge struck again. Wouldn’t they be cute collecting in a large apothecary jar? Then again, so would baby socks. I could make them and put them in the jar and then when someone has a baby, I’d be ready.

For Christmas I got the jar and I am already starting to fill it up with baby socks made from sock yarn leftovers! Saved from the urge to make hexipuffs! ;-)

Two pairs so far! Pairs 3 and 4 are only half done. For pair 3 I have to sort out where to start but I will have to use two little balls of leftovers and join them in order to have the stripes match. Pair 4 will have to have one pair orange with green and one pair green with orange. I underestimated the amount of orange I would need and won’t have enough for two identical socks. Oh well, it gives me a design challenge to make the two socks go together even though they will be opposites in color. Stay tuned!

Pair number 6 is done. Ran out of blue yarn so made toes in blue and red. Then added same yarn to top cuff so they would look better.

August 2014
finished pair number 7.

October 2014
working on the second sock of pair #3. It turned out there wasn’t enough yarn to make a pair that had matching stripes, so these are “fraternal twins.” A few pairs are going out the door today to a colleague who is having a baby girl. Pair #3 now done.

Spring and Summer 2019
After a period of hibernation, the sock making is back. (starts with #12) Lacking the desire to work on big projects, these socks have been a staple. I have two recipients and each will get a bag of socks for their coming little ones.
