I am not using the size of yarn or gauge called for in the pattern. I am using fingering weight yarn and not holding it doubled. So I recalculated the cast on and other pattern milestones for the differing gauge. Basically made all stitch counts 144% larger. Also, I didn’t want a turtle neck and was looking for someone who had done it as more of a loose cowl. Didn’t find that, but found a project that had a slit collar that could be open or buttoned. So I am using that idea. I cast on an extra 1.5” worth of stitches. (Total of 165 st since it needs to be a multiple of 3.) This will allow for an overlap for the buttoning of the collar if needed. I will join them in the round with the 1.5 inches overlapping and then start the body of the poncho. I don’t know what buttons I’ll be using so I will use the afterthought buttonholes that were in the Funky Grandpa pattern.

Decided to only do one repeat of the colorwork. I love it so much I was tempted to just keep going trying all different combinations, but I think less really will be more in this case. I’m now on the eyelet section and I’m up to a stitch count of 315 stitches. I had 280 stitches at the point of the colorwork (actually had 278, but needed a multiple of 8 so increased 2 more stitches during a stockinette round.
I have one more set of increases which will get me to a final count of 375 stitches around. I do think I will do a little more colorwork before the ribbing at the end. We’ll see.
