I need to make this to learn the bottom up raglan technique.
Cast on 4/15. Depending on how it turns out it will be for one of two new babies at work. As of 4/16 both sleeves are done and starting on the body. Planning to learn this construction to apply to the 1958 lace cardigan pattern. I plan to modify this cardigan that I have in hibernation (started pre-2005) so that I can make it all in one piece instead of sew the raglan sleeves on. This baby cardigan is step one in the process of getting the other one out of hibernation.
LOVE THIS!!!! :-) ADORABLE!!!!
Fun and quick. On size 4 needles it came out looking 6 month size. Next one will be on bigger needles--the fabric was a little denser than I wanted. But in all my millions of hand-me-down needles I didn’t have size 5 circulars. ????
One tip…At the part where the body and sleeves get put together the pattern says is a tight turn for the needles. Very true! I tried, and failed, to get it all on one circular needle. I ended up using three circulars to get it started. One for the front and half of one sleeve, one for the other half of that sleeve, the back and half the other sleeve, and one for the rest of the second sleeve and the front. I was able to go down to two circs immediately (one for both fronts and fronts of sleeves, one for the back and both backs of sleeves). Once I did that I worked it similar to a sock on two circs for a few rows and then went down to one circular needle. It worked a treat! So if you do this, use two (or three) circulars as though it is a sock!
I think this might take slightly more than one skein. I didn’t have much terra cotta left when I switched to turquoise. On bigger needles, I will be surprised if it comes out to be a one skein sweater. I plan to make a second in the reverse colors so we will see…
