A lacy, lacy shawl for my Mom. This is a thank you gift for her for bailing me out of a tough situation. Just one week before I was set to compete at cycling nationals, I busted my carbon bike frame!! Thanks to her and a very good friend with excellent connections I was able to find, and purchase a new bike at a heavy discount (Specialized Amira Expert, for any bike nerds on here).
Anyways. I had purchased this yarn on a whim two weeks ago because I have only recently discovered real yarn (no more acrylic for me…) and have been eager to stash anything and everything. I figured I would knit socks with it, but turns out I didnt have any of the right sized needles with me. Some pattern searching later, and I settled on this shawl.
This pattern was delightful to knit, very easy and very quick. I finished the whole thing in about 5 days. I was a little skeptical at first about the final size of the shawl, especially since the designer’s photo made the shawl look quite large. I will block the shit out of it when I get home. I hope to double the size of it, and make it very light and drapey.
Final result: beautiful. In hindsight, a different yarn may have been more appropriate. Perhaps a silk or bamboo blend. The yarn I used had a high wool content making it a little rougher and somewhat decreasing stitch definition. I interpret the pattern as such - the knit-on edging (a new, and very enjoyable technique for me!) are the waves lapping up and down on a beach. The main pattern repeat represents the playfulness of the waves in the open ocean, and the yarn-overs are the bubble trails left over afterwards.
